Jon Vigil, Senior Data Scientist

I’m Jon,

I have been a Senior Data Scientist at OptTek since 2021. I graduated with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and a M.S. in Aeronautics & Astronautics from Stanford University and previously worked in research and development as a mechanical and aeronautical engineer. I have nearly 10 years total of experience working in the areas of concept analysis, simulation, optimization, and machine learning.

My interest in integrating simulation and engineering design tools with optimization initially drew me to OptTek, where I joined a team that had strong expertise in this area. One of the things I enjoy about working at OptTek is the opportunity to work on a diverse set of challenging problems. This, combined with supportive colleagues who are willing teachers, has allowed me to continuously learn and develop professionally, while contributing to our customers’ success in a variety of technical and leadership roles.

Another aspect of life at OptTek that I enjoy is the ability and encouragement to balance working on challenging problems with enjoying life outside of work. In my free time I like spending time with my growing family, running, hiking, and playing soccer. I also enjoy reading and learning new things.
